Pool and Spa Leak Detection in Alhambra, CA

Every pool loses some water to evaporation — the question is whether yours is losing more than it should, and where. Pool and spa leak detection starts with evidence (including the simple bucket test), then works through the shell, fittings, lights, skimmer, equipment pad and buried plumbing with pressure testing and dye testing until the loss is explained.

Signs you may need this service

  • Needing to refill the pool more often than weather explains
  • Air bubbles in the pump or return lines
  • Wet areas around the equipment pad or pool deck
  • Cracks, or water level dropping to the same point then stopping
  • A bucket test that shows the pool losing more than the bucket

Individual symptoms do not always prove a leak — they justify a proper investigation, which is what this service provides.

What this service investigates

Pool and spa shell and fittings, skimmer and light niches, equipment-pad plumbing, and the buried suction and return lines.

Who it is for

  • Pool owners refilling far more often than neighbours
  • Anyone whose bucket test shows the pool losing more than the bucket
  • Spas losing water to one consistent level (a strong clue to the leak's height)

How the process works

1

Compare pool loss with a bucket test result (or run the comparison with you) to separate evaporation from leakage.

2

Inspect the equipment pad and visible fittings while the system runs and while it is off.

3

Dye-test suspect fittings, cracks and the skimmer area.

4

Pressure-test the plumbing lines if the shell checks out, and pinpoint any line that fails.

Equipment & methods

Bucket-test comparison, dye testing, equipment inspection, and pressure testing of pool plumbing, with acoustic methods where a buried line leak is suspected.

What affects the diagnosis

Evaporation varies with heat, wind, humidity and pool use — there is no single universal 'normal' number, which is why the bucket test compares your pool with a bucket in the same conditions. Some leaks only occur with the pump running (or only when it is off), so both states are checked.

What you receive

A clear verdict — evaporation, shell/fitting leak, or plumbing leak — the location or system responsible, and the repair options that follow.

Pool and Spa Leak Detection FAQs

How does the bucket test work?
Fill a bucket with pool water, set it on a step so the water levels inside and outside start equal, mark both, and compare after 24 hours with the pump run normally. If the pool level fell further than the bucket's, water is going somewhere other than evaporation. Our guide walks through it step by step.
How much evaporation is normal?
It depends on temperature, wind, sun and humidity, so any single figure would be misleading. The bucket test avoids the guessing by measuring evaporation and pool loss side by side, in identical weather.
The water always stops dropping at the same level — what does that mean?
That usually points to a leak at that height — a fitting, light, skimmer or crack at that level. It is a useful clue and one of the first things checked.
Can you find a leak in the buried pool plumbing?
Yes. Lines are pressure-tested individually; a line that will not hold pressure is leaking, and its location can then be pinpointed before any deck opening is discussed.
